almost April!

Max and I both have posts we need to finish writing in more detail, but first there must be a huge shoutout of thanks to all who organized and attended the baby shower, and to those who sent gifts from afar. We're overwhelmed with gratitude!

Until we make time for longer posts, here's a quick photo update to tide you over (hint: one is real, the other is a balloon).

Feeling good

Now that Hunahpu has "dropped" (resting low in the pelvis), everything I do feels a little bit different. I noticed at dance last night, and with some of the exercises at the gym today, that my weight feels lower and my hips are looser. Swimming doesn't feel much different, so I might rely on that more in the coming month. This whole body change continues to amaze me. Also, I've now reached my weight gain goal of 25 pounds, so I'm right on track with that.

I continue to feel really good, for which I am grateful, and my prenatal appointments have remained pleasantly easy and uneventful. We've met all the doctors now, and will continue to cycle through weekly until the birth. At this morning's appointment the doctor noted again how nice and low in the pelvis the head is located, and that the baby is a good size. At this point (37 weeks -- only 3 weeks from the due date) Hunahpu is considered to be at full term. I'd still like several more weeks of pregnancy, please, but it's a relief to have reached this milestone in the baby's development.

In the past week both Max and I have caught ourselves using the word "baby" to refer to Hunahpu. I guess we're both sensing that we're all approaching this transition time fairly soon. How exciting!

Sunny day

All winter we've been looking forward to welcoming a springtime baby, and now the weather is starting to feel like spring already! The warm temperature, sunshine, and new little blossoms are extra exciting this year. This morning Hunahpu got some sun.

36 week checkup

Today's prenatal appointment went well, and it confirmed what we suspected: the head is still down! Not only that, but it is at zero station, meaning the head has engaged in the pelvis and is at the level of the ischial spines. I'm carrying visibly lower now (pictures soon), and at this point we really don't need to be concerned about Hunahpu flipping over to a breech position. The doctor also put forth a (totally arbitrary/approximate) guess that the baby is probably at around 6 pounds now, which is a good weight for this stage. So far so good! Here's hoping for continued smooth sailing as we enter the last month or so.

Strong baby

Upper right abdomen reporting: this baby has some serious leg muscles. Good exercising, Hunahpu!

Helen Lee Abbott

I am totally blissed out right now. Our dear friends just became parents on March 1st to the most beautiful little one! I got to hold a newborn baby for the first time. I cannot express how special this feels, and how amazing it was to hold her. Huge love!
